Come learn about tatting! A popular handicraft of the mid-1800s, tatting is a unique method of creating a strong shuttle-made lace from thread.
In this two-part series of classes, you will gain experience with the basics of this uncommon lace making practice. Expect to leave the second class having begun or finished a shamrock and be provided with ways to expand the project as you develop your skills.
In this class, we will be exploring fun ways to use tatting picots by making shamrocks! These simple motifs can be adapted to create larger projects like cards, doilies, pins, and more! We will focus on learning double stitches in Part 1 and making shamrocks in Part 2.
In the class we will cover the basics of tatting including:
How to load a shuttle
How to select thread to use
Making double stitches
Creating rings
Creating chains
Making picots
Attaching rings and chains together with picots
Age Requirement: This skill and class is ideal for learners 14+.
Required Skills/Knowledge: No prior experience necessary.
Materials: all materials will be provided, including:
1 Boye tatting shuttle
8 colors of thread samples
Small organza bag
Homework: Due to the nature of tatting, projects can take some time to complete. Between Part 1 and Part 2, expect to practice skills covered in Part 1.

Class must meet a minimum enrollment of 3 students to run. If the class is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will be refunded to your original form of payment.
