Fabric of Society York is a community for you.
We Stand For
All Are Welcome - Process Over Product - Slow Making - Creativity is for Everyone - Making is Better Together - Community Over Competition - Care for Ourselves, Others, and Our World - Centering Joy - Presence over Busyness - Mistakes Are Ok - Learning is Lifelong
Our Vision
Fabric of Society York exists to support the creativity in all of us, and to be a space where makers can come together to learn, share, and create in community with one another. We believe it’s ok to prioritize joy and creativity - that when we make choices that nourish our hearts and our hands, we improve our own lives and the lives of those around us. We think it’s ok to take a break from the relentless busyness that keeps us disconnected from ourselves and our community. We embrace slow-making, process over product, the perfect imperfections inherent in the handmade. We celebrate the power in sitting down in a room with one another and making something with our own two hands. And we’re here to help make that creativity, connection, and community possible. We hope you’ll join us soon for a class, a Maker Meetup, or just chat. Because making is better together.
Our Founder
Hi, my name is Rachel, and I’m the founder of Fabric of Society York. I founded Fabric of Society York because handicrafts have been a source of creativity, joy, comfort, and empowerment for me since I started learning them as a young child. I truly love handicrafts - the feeling of creating something beautiful with my own hands is like no other. But learning different handicrafts by myself throughout the years was often frustrating and isolating.
After completing my MSEd in 2024, I began to think of how I could help others experience the joy of handicrafts, without the frustration and isolation that can go along learning with them. I truly believe the world would be a better place if everyone interested in handicrafts had the resources and support to learn and practice them. And so the idea for Fabric of Society York was born! My hope is that through Fabric of Society York, more people can experience the joy of handicrafts in community with other makers.
