Intro to Tapestry Weaving: Upcycling Denim (Beginner-Friendly!)
Join us in a celebration of Earth Day through upcycling and sustainable making! In this beginner-friendly, single-session workshop, you’ll create a woven tapestry using pre-loved denim. We’ll cut and prepare old jeans for weaving and explore how denim’s weight, seams, and natural variations in color create rich texture and visual interest. The class is centered on hands-on experimentation, transforming a familiar material into a one-of-a-kind textile piece to decorate your space.
You’ll learn the basics of tapestry weaving, including how to set up and use a frame loom, the difference between warp and weft, and essential weaving structures to get you started. With an emphasis on playful exploration, this class is perfect for anyone curious about weaving or interested in creative, sustainable practices.
Feel free to bring your own jeans to upcycle, or use the denim provided. By the end of the class, you’ll leave with a completed denim tapestry, along with a cardboard frame loom, yarns, a needle, and a ruler so you can continue weaving at home.
Age Requirement: Adults (18+) or Teens (13+) with a Parent
Materials Fee: The class kit costs $10 and includes a cardboard frame loom, yarns, needle, ruler, and denim scraps. Please bring $10 cash or check with you to class to pay for your kit.
Materials to Bring: Feel free to bring your own jeans that you would like to upcycle as well.
Required Skills: This is a beginner-friendly class — no previous skills required, just bring your excitement to learn!
