This is a makeup class for the November 2025 class. Please only register if you were part of the original class that needed to be rescheduled.

This is our fundamental machine sewing course, designed for complete beginners or those who need a comprehensive refresher on how to use a sewing machine. The emphasis of this course is proper use of a sewing machine for beginner-level sewing. (We will not be covering commercial pattern reading in this course.) This course has been designed to give you the knowledge and skills you need to begin your machine sewing journey, and our encouraging, knowledgeable instructors are here to help you succeed. The project for this class is to create a handmade “book” of different techniques and stitches for you to keep as a reference for your future sewing projects.

In this class, you will learn:

  • the parts of a sewing machine

  • what tools you’ll need

  • how to prepare the machine for sewing

  • how to sew a straight seam

  • fabric 101

  • different stitches and when/how to use them

  • how to fix mistakes

  • sewing room safety

  • how to give your project a professional finish
