Kitty Savel
Kitty Savel is a Fiber Artist who lives and practices her art in Dallastown, Pennsylvania. Her Fiber Art includes paper and fabric collage, wood and found materials assemblage, knit and crochet, screen and block printing on paper and fabric.
Kitty is self-taught with help and input from other Fiber Artists. She has taught fiber art at several venues in the Pittsburgh area including The Society for Contemporary Craft, North Hills Arts Center, Full Pint Wild Side Pub and Whitehall and Butler libraries.
Kitty is very sensitive to the inspirations around her in in her everyday life. She incorporates recycled materials in her collage work. Color plays a huge role in how Kitty approaches her work. She will take a tree, for instance, and depict it in fabric and paper in colors other than traditional green and brown.
Kitty has exhibited in galleries and museums in Pennsylvania. Her piece entitled “Color Lattice on Black” was a finalist in the Fusion Art’s 3rd Annual Colors International Online Juried Art Exhibition for the month of February 2019. She has won Honorable Mention for her sweater designs at North Hills Arts Center and her work was featured in the 2020 Achieving Women of Centre County held at the Bellefonte Art Museum.
In 2024 Kitty collaborated with 10 other knit designers and Vogue Designer Deborah Newton on a book of hat designs entitled The Year of Hats. This book is available on Amazon and Ravelry.
